Thomas Zebedee McDougal

Thomas Zebedee McDougal is my beloved purebred Lhasa Apso dog.

You Looking at Me?

He is a beautiful companion puppy and is often to be found curled up near my ankles while I am beading. I have trained him not to go in front of the torch in case he cops some flying glass coming at him. And of course with all that hair he really shouldn't get too close to the flame!

The story behind his name is this:

Thomas : We were looking for a name that wasn't too 'out there' and decided to call him Thomas in memory of a friend who had died recently. For some reason even from the very beginning we have always called him Thomas and never shortened it to Tommy or anything like that. No idea why.

Zebedee: When we had had Thomas with us for a few weeks we realised that he was a very 'bouncy puppy'. He used to jump feet off the floor in excitement about things. He would literally bounce up and down on the spot close to 5 foot in the air. Pretty impressive for a little thing that was barely half the size of an A4 piece of paper!  He reminded me of Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout TV show.
Zebedee is a funny little man with a huge moustache that has a pogo stick for a body and literally bounces to get around. And funnily enough, Dougal from the same show is in actual fact a Lhasa Apso dog. A Lhasa Apso is supposed to have long long hair that reaches down to the ground when they are kept in 'show' condition. Living in Queensland Australia it is WAY too hot for the poor thing to have that much hair so we keep him relatively short haired. It keeps him looking eternally like a puppy.

McDougal: That was my mother mucking around one day trying to make him sound even more formal and regal than he already does. Possibly influenced by the Magic Roundabout reference again

My beloved puppy is my companion and my child. I adore him.

Every now and again Thomas does really weird things for a dog. Well I think they are weird and Ill probably post them up here if they are funny! So this page will remain Thomas's page.
